Hyderabad, March 22: Telangana BJP chief Ramchandra Rao said the party does not oppose the Musi Rejuvenation Project. However, he said the BJP will always oppose demolition of houses belonging to poor families. He made these remarks during a PowerPoint presentation on the project.
He said the government should not demolish homes while spending public money on development. He also questioned the spending of Rs 7000 crore on the Gandhi Sarovar project. He said such spending should not harm poor residents.
Ramchandra Rao Questions Musi Rejuvenation Project Plans
Ramchandra Rao asked why officials have not acted against illegal structures along the Musi River. Meanwhile, he said authorities should not target only poor families. Therefore, he warned that the BJP will continue to support affected residents.
He said Hyderabad needs beautification. However, he said such work should not damage the lives of poor families. He also alleged that the Congress government has not shown real development. Instead, he claimed corruption has increased in the state.
He also criticised the government over irrigation projects. He said former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao built the Kaleshwaram project with Rs 1.5 lakh crore. Meanwhile, he alleged that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is neglecting it. He further criticised the government’s approach to development.
Experts Suggest Alternatives in Musi Rejuvenation Project
During the presentation, irrigation expert Vedire Sriram spoke about alternatives to house demolitions. He said the government should focus on pollution control in the Musi River. He also said authorities must stop drainage waste from entering the river.
He said Musi rejuvenation will succeed when farmers can grow clean crops using Musi water. Meanwhile, he questioned the current approach. He asked how cleaning only the city stretch would help if sewage continues to flow from upstream areas.
He suggested the government must study the full river system. He also said officials should consider long term solutions. Therefore, he advised the government to rethink the execution plan.
The BJP leader asked the government to review the concerns. He said development should protect both the environment and poor families. He also said the government should consider expert suggestions before taking further steps.
