Osmania University Hosts Seminar On Ambedkar Women’s Rights

Hyderabad, March 30 (Maxim News): Osmania University hosted a two day seminar on Dr B R Ambedkar’s fight for women’s rights on March 30, 2026.

The Dr B R Ambedkar Research Center organised the event. The Phule Ambedkar Centre for Inclusive and Empowerment Studies supported the programme.

Prof G Naresh Reddy, Registrar of Osmania University, inaugurated the seminar. He stressed the importance of Ambedkar’s contributions to gender justice.

Prof Reddy also noted the relevance of constitutional values in advancing women’s equality.

The morning plenary session featured Prof M Mahender, Assistant Professor from the Central University of Karnataka. He explained Ambedkar’s role in drafting the Hindu Code Bill. He highlighted how the bill aimed to secure property rights and legal protection for women.

Moreover, he said Ambedkar viewed social reform as essential for democracy.

Prof B Vijaya, Director of UGC Human Resource Development Centre, chaired the session. She emphasised the need to study Ambedkar’s legal reforms in present times. Furthermore, she called for continued academic engagement on gender rights.

Speakers highlight Ambedkar vision for women’s equality

The afternoon plenary session focused on Ambedkar’s work for marginalised women. Prof Mayadevi, Head of the Hindi Department at Osmania University, spoke about Ambedkar’s fight for Dalit women’s dignity.

She explained how caste and gender discrimination created double barriers. Therefore, she urged more research on intersectional inequality.

Prof Namratha, Head of the Marathi Department, discussed rights of Dalit women. She underlined the need for education and legal awareness.

In addition, she said Ambedkar promoted social change through policy reform.

Prof Konda Nageshwar Rao, Director of the Civil Services Academy, addressed Ambedkar’s vision for women’s empowerment.

He highlighted Ambedkar’s views on equal wages and economic independence. He stated that financial equality remains central to social justice.

Prof J Madhavi, Director of the Phule Ambedkar Research Center at Osmania University, chaired the afternoon session. She encouraged students to examine Ambedkar’s ideas through research and public policy discussions.

Prof M Lingappa Gonal, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Director of the Dr B R Ambedkar Research Center, delivered the vote of thanks. He thanked the speakers and participants. He also appreciated the collaboration between academic centres.

The seminar brought together faculty members, researchers, and students. Organisers said such events strengthen debate on social justice. They also said Ambedkar’s ideas continue to guide equality discussions in India.
