A major terror attack plan in India has been uncovered, with the Uttar Pradesh Police arresting a group allegedly involved in plotting attacks in key cities. The development comes in the backdrop of the Pahalgam terror attack in April last year, which claimed 26 lives and shocked the nation.
According to the police, the accused were planning to carry out attacks aimed at causing large-scale damage and casualties. Initial interrogation revealed that they had direct links with Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI. The group allegedly intended to disrupt train traffic, especially in cities like Lucknow and Ghaziabad.
Meanwhile, investigators found that the accused were receiving funds from abroad to execute the planned attacks. The police said that the group had identified railway infrastructure as a primary target. They reportedly aimed to damage critical systems to trigger accidents and chaos.
The probe revealed that the accused attempted to destroy a key railway signal box at Lucknow railway station. Authorities arrested the main accused, Saqib from Meerut, along with three others. The police said their main intention was to disrupt the railway system and cause train accidents.
Officials explained that the railway signal system plays a crucial role in controlling train movement. Therefore, damaging it could lead to serious accidents. The accused appeared to have targeted this system to maximize impact and casualties.
Further investigation showed that Saqib had visited targeted locations and recorded photos and videos. The police said the group used this material to assess security and geographical conditions. They regularly shared this information with their handlers in Pakistan.
Later, the authorities seized electronic devices from the accused. They are now examining the data to identify other possible members of the network. The police said the investigation is ongoing and efforts are being made to uncover the full extent of the plot. The case highlights ongoing concerns about cross-border terror links and the targeting of critical infrastructure in India.
