Hyderabad, April 22 (Maxim News) : HYDRA averted a major accident by safely demolishing an old overhead water tank in Sanjeeva Reddy Nagar on Wednesday. Residents had lived in fear for years as the unused structure stood weak amid houses, offices and busy roads.
The successful operation brought relief to hundreds of families and nearby office staff.
Officials said the overhead tank was built nearly 65 years ago to supply drinking water to thousands of households in Sanjeeva Reddy Nagar. The structure had a storage capacity of 10 lakh litres and stood at a height of 80 meters.
However, over time the tank weakened. Engineers from JNTU inspected the structure and advised authorities not to use it. They warned that the construction had become unsafe.
As a result, the tank remained unused for around 15 years. Yet, it continued to stand in a crowded area surrounded by homes and government offices.
The location made demolition highly risky. Residential buildings stood on three sides, while a road passed on one side. Moreover, offices of the Water Board, GHMC and Housing Board were just 20 meters away. A power transformer also stood nearby.
Because of these risks, the Water Board sought HYDRA’s help to remove the structure safely.
After receiving the request, HYDRA teams inspected the site and prepared a technical plan. On Wednesday morning at 6 am, teams began the demolition process using iron ropes and two heavy excavators.
Workers carried out the operation with extreme caution. Consequently, the tank collapsed exactly within the planned area without damaging nearby buildings.
HYDRA completed the entire operation by 10 am, finishing the task in just four hours.
After the demolition, residents said they finally felt safe. Office staff in nearby government buildings also expressed relief and thanked HYDRA for removing the dangerous structure without any incident.
Officials said the operation shows how planned action can prevent future disasters in crowded urban areas. (Maxim News)
