Hyderabad, May 5: An IndiGo flight from Hyderabad to Chandigarh witnessed a major scare after a power bank explosion inside the cabin. The incident occurred on Tuesday after landing, when the aircraft was stationary on the ground.
According to officials, flight 6E 108 had landed at Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport. However, a passenger’s power bank suddenly exploded inside the cabin. As a result, dense smoke spread quickly and a brief fire broke out.
Passengers were alarmed by the sudden development. However, the crew responded swiftly and prevented panic.
IndiGo Flight Power Bank Explosion Handled Swiftly
The cabin crew immediately noticed the smoke and acted without delay. They reassured passengers and initiated emergency evacuation procedures. Soon after, all passengers were safely deboarded through emergency exits.
No injuries were reported in the incident. Both passengers and officials expressed relief after the safe evacuation.
In a statement, IndiGo confirmed that the incident occurred after landing while the aircraft was on the ground. The airline said passengers were safely moved to the terminal and their well being is being monitored.
It added that authorities were informed immediately and all standard safety protocols were followed. The aircraft will undergo detailed safety checks before returning to service. Officials will conduct a full investigation into the incident.
Earlier, a similar incident occurred in March on another IndiGo flight from Visakhapatnam to Delhi. A technical fault led to engine failure mid air. The aircraft made an emergency landing at Indira Gandhi International Airport at 10:54 am, ensuring all 161 passengers and crew remained safe.
Notably, the IndiGo flight power bank explosion comes even before memories of the previous incident have faded, raising fresh concerns over in flight safety of electronic devices.
