Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Pat Cummins admitted his team could have bowled better lengths during their crushing defeat against Gujarat Titans in IPL 2026 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Gujarat Titans defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by 82 runs after defending 168 in dominant fashion on Tuesday.
SRH collapsed for just 86 runs during the chase as Gujarat pacers exploited the difficult batting conditions with disciplined bowling.
Speaking after the match, Cummins said Hyderabad bowlers could have maintained hard lengths for a longer period during Gujarat’s innings.
He said the pitch became difficult for batting whenever bowlers consistently hit the back of a length.
Gujarat Bowlers Dominate SRH Batting Line Up
Cummins praised Gujarat Titans bowlers for executing their plans perfectly on a challenging wicket.
He said SRH initially felt confident while chasing 169 after restricting Gujarat to 168 for five wickets.
However, the innings collapsed immediately after the start.
Mohammed Siraj dismissed Travis Head for a duck in the opening over.
Soon after, Kagiso Rabada ripped through Hyderabad’s top order and pushed the team into deep trouble.
Cummins described Gujarat’s bowling effort as one of the best T20 bowling displays.
He said Gujarat deserved full credit for using the conditions effectively.
Despite the batting collapse, Cummins backed SRH’s batting unit and said one poor performance should not overshadow their strong season.
He pointed out that all four top order batters have scored more than 400 runs this season.
SRH Still Alive In IPL 2026 Playoff Race
The defeat has slightly hurt Hyderabad’s playoff chances, but Cummins remained confident about qualification.
He said SRH won five or six matches from their previous seven games, which helped the team stay ahead in the points race.
Cummins added that the team still has two matches left to secure a playoff spot.
He urged the side to quickly move on from the defeat and focus on the approach that brought them success earlier in the season.
The loss also highlighted Gujarat Titans’ strong bowling depth as they strengthened their position in the IPL 2026 standings.
