PM Modi | Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reportedly directed officials to reduce the number of vehicles in his security convoy by 50 percent as part of efforts to promote fuel conservation and austerity measures amid global economic uncertainty.
The move comes days after Modi appealed to citizens in Hyderabad to reduce fuel consumption, avoid unnecessary foreign travel, and limit non essential spending due to rising international tensions and pressure on energy markets.
According to reports, the Special Protection Group has been instructed to implement the changes without compromising the Prime Minister’s security arrangements.
Officials said the revised convoy arrangement was already seen during the Prime Minister’s recent visits to Gujarat and Assam.
PM Modi Pushes Fuel Conservation And EV Use
Sources said the Prime Minister also advised officials to increase the use of electric vehicles in the convoy wherever possible without making fresh purchases.
Government sources stated that all mandatory security protocols under the official Blue Book guidelines continue without any relaxation.
The Centre’s austerity push follows concerns over rising crude oil prices and tensions in West Asia that could impact fuel supplies and foreign exchange reserves.
During his Hyderabad address, Modi urged people to reduce petrol and diesel consumption, use public transport, adopt work from home practices where possible, and avoid unnecessary gold purchases.
The Prime Minister’s decision has triggered discussions across political and administrative circles, with several states also considering measures to reduce official fuel usage.
Recently, Yogi Adityanath ordered a 50 percent reduction in official vehicle convoys for ministers and senior officials in Uttar Pradesh following the Prime Minister’s appeal.
Analysts said Modi’s move sends a strong message to governments and officials across the country to adopt energy saving measures during the current global uncertainty.
