Hyderabad, May 14: Minister escapes unhurt in Karimnagar lift collapse after an elevator malfunction at a private hospital triggered panic on Wednesday night.
Adluri Laxman Kumar, who handles SC and ST welfare, was visiting a patient when the incident occurred. He had gone to meet a maize farmer undergoing treatment.
After the visit, the minister boarded a lift from the first floor. However, the lift suddenly collapsed to the ground floor and he got trapped inside.
Hospital staff rushed immediately and rescued him by opening the lift gate. He escaped without any injuries.
The minister later criticized the hospital management. He alleged lack of basic safety measures despite high charges to patients.
He said a complaint has been lodged through his personal assistant. He also warned that action will be taken against the hospital.
Officials are expected to examine the cause of the malfunction. Further inquiry into safety standards is likely.
