Hyderabad, May 14: CBI Director Praveen Sood tenure extended till May 2027 as the Centre approved continuation of his term for another year.
The decision was cleared by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet. It followed recommendations from the selection panel.
Praveen Sood was earlier set to complete his tenure on May 24, 2026. However, the government extended his term by one year.
An official order was issued by the Department of Personnel and Training. It confirmed the extension of his tenure in the top investigative agency.
Sood is a 1986 batch IPS officer of the Karnataka cadre. He will continue to head the Central Bureau of Investigation during this extended period.
The selection committee includes Chief Justice of India Surya Kant. The panel reviewed the proposal before recommending the extension.
Officials said the move ensures continuity in key investigations. The extension comes amid ongoing high profile cases handled by the agency.
