AP Govt Shifts Bakrid Holiday To May 28

Hyderabad, May 22: The Government of Andhra Pradesh has changed the official holiday for Bakrid from May 27 to May 28 following the revised festival date based on moon sighting.

The decision was announced through fresh orders issued by Andhra Pradesh Chief Secretary G. Sai Prasad on Thursday.

According to the orders, the revised Bakrid holiday on May 28 will apply to all government offices, educational institutions and other establishments functioning under the State government.

Holiday Revised After Moon Sighting

Earlier, the Andhra Pradesh government’s annual holiday calendar had declared May 27 as the official holiday for Bakrid.

However, after the festival date changed based on the sighting of the moon, the Chief Executive Officer of the Andhra Pradesh State Waqf Board requested the government to revise the holiday accordingly.

The State government examined the representation submitted by the Waqf Board and later approved the request.

Following the decision, the Chief Secretary issued a Government Order officially shifting the Bakrid holiday to May 28.

Festival Preparations Underway

Bakrid, also known as Eid al Adha, is one of the most important festivals celebrated by the Muslim community with religious devotion and special prayers.

With the revised notification, government employees, students and institutions across Andhra Pradesh are expected to observe the festival holiday on May 28 instead of the previously announced date.

Officials said all departments and institutions have been informed about the revised holiday schedule to avoid confusion.
