Addressing a party meeting in Amberpet, Rama Rao accused the Congress government of attempting to privatise the electricity sector by replacing existing electricity meters with prepaid systems across rural and urban areas, including agricultural connections.

He claimed that the move was part of a larger conspiracy to gradually remove the free power scheme provided to farmers.

“The Congress is conspiring to remove free power for farmers by installing meters for agricultural motors. Prepaid meters are being introduced only to privatise the electricity sector,” Rama Rao alleged.

KTR Targets Congress Over Power Meter Proposal

The former minister said the State Cabinet had already decided to introduce prepaid electricity meters and alleged that the government was preparing to implement the project within the next three months.

Rama Rao recalled that the BRS had warned people during the Assembly elections that the free electricity scheme would be under threat if Congress came to power in Telangana.

He stated that former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao had resisted pressure from the Centre to install prepaid meters despite alleged restrictions on loans worth Rs 30,000 crore.

According to KTR, the present Congress government was now moving ahead with the proposal to facilitate private participation in the power sector.

He urged people to strongly oppose the installation of prepaid meters before they reached every household and agricultural motor connection in the state.

“People should politically disconnect the Congress before prepaid meters enter every home,” he said.

Criticises Government Over HYDRAA And Musi Project

Rama Rao also accused the Congress government of administrative failures, corruption and failing to fulfil its election promises despite completing nearly half of its term.

Referring to Hyderabad civic issues, he criticised demolitions being carried out under HYDRAA operations. He alleged that while the previous BRS government constructed houses for the poor, the current administration was demolishing homes and displacing families.

The BRS leader also targeted Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy over the proposed Future City project. He alleged that the government was neglecting existing civic infrastructure while making large promises about future developments.

On the Musi river rejuvenation project, Rama Rao claimed that several sewage treatment plant works had already been initiated during the BRS regime. He accused the present government of using the project for contracts and commissions.

He further alleged that demolitions linked to the Musi project were causing hardship to thousands of residents living along the river.

KTR announced that the BRS would soon launch a digital membership enrolment drive across Telangana.
