Hyderabad, May 24: Severe heatwave conditions continue to grip Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, forcing authorities to issue a red alert in several districts as temperatures remain dangerously high.
Officials warned that extreme heat conditions are likely to continue for the next few days. Temperatures have crossed 46 degrees Celsius in multiple districts, while hot winds and low humidity levels are worsening the situation across both Telugu states.
According to official reports, nearly 40 people died due to heat related illnesses in the two states over the last two days. Telangana alone reported around 30 suspected heatwave deaths.
The combined Warangal region emerged as one of the worst affected areas. Sixteen people reportedly died due to heatstroke within two days. Nine deaths were reported on Thursday and seven more on Friday.
A devotee who attended the Saraswati Pushkaralu event at Kaleshwaram reportedly died due to heatstroke near Ippal Bore in Jayashankar Bhupalpally district. In another incident, a JCB driver from Jharkhand working in Regulagudem village under Kataram mandal also died after suffering from severe heat exposure.
Heatwave Deaths Rise Across Telangana And Andhra Pradesh
The combined Khammam district also witnessed a serious impact from the heatwave. Twelve people reportedly died due to extreme weather conditions in the district.
Palligudem village in Khammam Rural mandal recorded the highest temperature at 46.3 degrees Celsius. Officials said several other regions also recorded temperatures above 46 degrees Celsius.
The intense heat is also affecting animals. In Medak district, a bull reportedly died due to heatstroke in Toopran area.
Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh also reported rising heatwave deaths. Doctors in Vijayawada confirmed that 10 people died due to heatstroke in different police station limits across the city.

The victims reportedly included daily wage labourers, private employees and homeless persons. Three deaths were reported in One Town area, three in Governorpet, two in Machavaram, one in New Rajarajeswari Peta and another person died while undergoing treatment at a government hospital.
Following the deaths, authorities intensified relief measures at busy junctions and public places.
Officials in Palnadu district directed hospitals to keep sufficient medicines, ORS packets and emergency facilities ready for heatstroke patients.
The Meteorological Department issued red alert and heatwave warnings for Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Warangal and Hanumakonda districts.
Authorities warned that severe heat conditions are expected to continue in Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahabubabad, Warangal and Hanumakonda districts on Monday as well.
Officials also clarified that Hyderabad is likely to experience intense heatwave conditions over the coming days. Residents have been advised to avoid stepping outdoors during afternoon hours unless necessary and to stay hydrated.
