Gaya, May 30: Myanmar President U Min Aung Hlaing began his five day India visit on Saturday with a visit to Bodh Gaya in Bihar, where he offered prayers at the Mahabodhi Temple.
The Myanmar President was received at the airport by Syed Ata Hasnain. The Ministry of External Affairs said the visit reflects the strong spiritual, historical and people to people ties between India and Myanmar.
India Myanmar Relations in Focus
During the visit, Myanmar President U Min Aung Hlaing will also visit the Mahabodhi Ekta Dhamma Monastery. He is scheduled to hold talks with Narendra Modi on June 1 to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations.
The President is accompanied by a high level delegation that includes cabinet ministers, senior officials and business leaders. He will also participate in a business forum during his stay.
On June 2, he will travel to Mumbai for industry interactions and site visits.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, Myanmar remains important to India’s Neighbourhood First, Act East and MAHASAGAR policies. The visit is expected to deepen cooperation across multiple sectors.
Earlier in April, Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh visited Myanmar and conveyed India’s commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation. U Min Aung Hlaing assumed office as Myanmar’s President in April after being elected on April 3.
India and Myanmar continue to maintain close cultural, economic and strategic ties, with both countries seeking greater cooperation in regional development and connectivity.
