Hyderabad, May 30: Cyberabad Police arrested four members of a chain snatching gang involved in multiple theft cases and recovered stolen property worth around Rs 5 lakh.
The accused were identified as Govind Singh, Karan Singh, Hardeep Singh and Rohith Singh. A juvenile was also apprehended in connection with the case. The arrests were made by teams from Jeedimetla Police Station and CCS Quthbullapur.
Cyberabad Chain Snatching Gang Targeted Women Walkers
According to Quthbullapur Deputy Commissioner of Police N. Koti Reddy, the gang targeted women during morning walks and forcibly snatched gold chains and mobile phones.
The investigation began after a chain snatching incident on Tuesday. In the case, gang members travelling in an autorickshaw allegedly snatched a two tola gold chain from a woman and fled the spot.
Following the complaint, special teams were formed to investigate the crime. Police analysed CCTV footage from the crime scene and nearby escape routes to identify the suspects.
“By verifying the modus operandi, suspect records and technical evidence, the accused were identified and tracked down with the help of the autorickshaw used in the crime,” DCP Koti Reddy said.
Police said the gang members regularly gathered in the evenings and consumed liquor. They allegedly stole autorickshaws from residential colonies and used them to move around the city in search of targets.
Investigators found that the gang mainly targeted women who were alone on roads and walking tracks during early morning hours.
The police recovered a gold chain, a mobile phone and a two wheeler from the accused. The total value of the seized property is estimated at Rs 5 lakh.
