Bengaluru, May 30: The swearing in ceremony of Karnataka’s new Chief Minister will be held on June 3 at the Glass House in Lok Bhavan, Bengaluru, Congress state working president and Rajya Sabha member G C Chandrashekhar announced on Saturday.
Speaking to media persons, Chandrashekhar said there was initial confusion regarding the venue of the ceremony. While discussions were held about conducting the event at the Governor’s residence, the party later finalized the Glass House at Lok Bhavan as the venue.
He said the exact timing of the oath taking ceremony would be announced later.
Chandrashekhar said the Congress leadership has decided against holding an extravagant event and wants the ceremony to reflect the values of public service and simplicity.
“The swearing in ceremony should not be extravagant. It should be conducted as simply as possible and should reflect a spirit of work and service rather than display and pomp,” he said.
The Congress leader revealed that the party had earlier considered arranging around 10,000 to 15,000 buses to bring supporters from different districts to Bengaluru. However, the proposal was dropped due to concerns over fuel shortages, traffic congestion and public inconvenience.
He appealed to party workers and supporters not to rush to the venue and cooperate with authorities to ensure smooth traffic movement in the city.
The ceremony is expected to formally mark the leadership transition in Karnataka, with senior Congress leaders likely to attend the event.
Party leaders indicated that the new government intends to begin its tenure with a focus on governance and public welfare rather than large scale celebrations. The Congress leadership has instructed organisers to keep arrangements modest while ensuring the smooth conduct of the swearing in programme.
