Hyderabad, June 1: The Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Monday expelled two of its MLAs, Sandeepan and Ritabrata Banerjee, for alleged anti party activities. The party also cancelled their primary membership with immediate effect.
In separate notices, the AITC disciplinary committee said both leaders engaged in activities and made statements that went against the interests of the party. However, the notices did not specify the nature of the alleged violations.
TMC Expels Two MLAs Amid Internal Differences
Meanwhile, both MLAs were among around 60 legislators who skipped a party meeting held at Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s residence last Sunday.
Sandeepan had publicly questioned the manner in which the meeting was conducted. He also raised concerns regarding Abhishek Banerjee in connection with a forged signature case. Reports suggest these developments may have influenced the party’s decision.
So far, neither Sandeepan nor Ritabrata Banerjee has responded to the expulsion.
Ritabrata Banerjee joined the TMC from the CPI(M) in 2017. In the 2026 Assembly elections, he won the Uluberia Purba seat by defeating BJP candidate Rudra Prasad Banerjee by 11,800 votes.
Similarly, Sandeepan won from the Entali constituency in the recent elections. He secured victory over BJP candidate Priyanka Tibrewal by a margin of 34,000 votes.
