Hyderabad: A 20-year-old youth was rescued after being trapped inside a lift at the Uppal Skywalk near Uppal Metro Station for nearly two hours late on Thursday night.
The youth, identified as Rahul from Mahabubnagar district, works at a private company and stays in a men’s hostel in Uppal.
According to officials, Rahul was returning to his hostel after completing his work shift. He entered the lift at the Uppal Skywalk around 11 p.m. when it reportedly stopped midway, leaving him stranded inside.
Rescue Operation Lasted Nearly Two Hours
After receiving information about the incident, police personnel, fire department teams and other officials rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation.
Officials faced difficulties in opening the lift doors, which delayed the rescue efforts. A technician later assisted the team in accessing the lift.
Rahul was safely rescued at around 1.15 a.m., nearly two hours after he became trapped.
Citizens Raise Safety Concerns
Speaking to the media after the rescue, Rahul said he experienced severe distress during the ordeal. He urged authorities to take steps to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Residents and commuters alleged that lift-related issues had been reported earlier at the skywalk. They demanded regular inspections and proper maintenance of the facility to ensure public safety.
Authorities have not yet issued an official statement on the cause of the malfunction.
