Haiti Shock Morocco Before Atlas Lions Fight Back
Haiti made a dream start and scored their first World Cup goal since 1974 in the 10th minute. Lenny Joseph produced a clever backheel after Jean-Kevin Duverne cut the ball into the box, with the ball going in off Morocco goalkeeper Yassine Bono.
However, Morocco responded strongly and levelled through Achraf Hakimi after Haiti goalkeeper Johny Placide parried Bilal El Khannouss’ effort.
Haiti regained the lead soon after as Isidor fired home a stunning long-range strike. Yet Morocco hit back again before half-time when Hakimi set up Saibari, who finished calmly to make it 2-2.
After the break, Morocco gradually took control of the match. Soufiane Rahimi completed the comeback in the closing stages with a deflected finish from a corner. Youngster Gessime Yassine then added the fourth goal late in the game to secure the win.
Morocco’s victory confirmed their place in the knockout stage, while Haiti bowed out after a spirited campaign that won them plenty of praise.
