Hyderabad, June 27: At least 29 people, including 17 children and a pregnant woman, were hospitalised after allegedly consuming contaminated food in New Moti Nagar of Mahabubnagar district.
According to officials, the incident came to light on Friday after residents developed symptoms of food poisoning. All the affected persons were shifted to a government hospital, where they are undergoing treatment.
Preliminary information suggests that leftover food from a wedding feast held in Moti Nagar on Thursday was distributed to several families living in a nearby slum. Soon after consuming the food, many people complained of vomiting, stomach pain and other symptoms.
Police and health department officials have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the suspected food poisoning. Food samples are expected to be examined as part of the probe.
Former Minister Srinivas Goud visited the government hospital and met the victims. He asked doctors to closely monitor their condition and ensure proper medical treatment.
Officials said the health condition of the affected persons is being monitored, while further investigation is underway.
