Hyderabad, June 28: A major terror attack targeted a Sindh Rangers facility in Karachi on Saturday night, leaving four security personnel dead and six attackers killed during a prolonged gun battle, according to security reports.
The attack took place at the Sindh Rangers’ Bhittai Wing headquarters in Karachi’s Gulistan e Jauhar area when militants rammed an explosives laden vehicle into the main entrance before opening fire. Security personnel launched a counter operation immediately after the breach.
Karachi Terror Attack Triggers Major Security Response
Authorities said the exchange of fire continued for nearly 90 minutes before security forces gained control of the situation. One attacker was captured alive while clearance operations continued in the area.
Reports identified the attackers as members of Jamaat ul Ahrar, a faction linked to the banned Tehreek e Taliban Pakistan. The group claimed responsibility for the assault.
Special Security Unit commandos, police teams and Rangers personnel participated in the operation. Roads around the compound were sealed and residents were advised to remain indoors during the operation.
Pakistani authorities condemned the attack and said operations would continue to identify any remaining threats. The incident comes amid renewed concerns over militant violence targeting security installations in Pakistan.
