Khammam, June 30: The Eagle Force team and the Bhadradri Kothagudem police seized 525 kilograms of ganja worth around Rs 2.5 crore during a joint operation in Burgampadu mandal of Khammam district. Police arrested three accused and a juvenile while four other suspects remain absconding.
The seizure was made after police intercepted a container lorry near the ITC West Gate at Sarapaka during a vehicle inspection. On searching the vehicle, officers discovered the contraband concealed inside a specially designed secret compartment.
Police said the investigation revealed that the ganja had been procured from the Alluri Kotha forest area in Odisha and was being transported to Uttar Pradesh through an interstate smuggling network.
The accused allegedly modified the container lorry by creating a hidden chamber to transport the narcotic substance without attracting suspicion.
During the operation, police seized 525 kilograms of ganja, a container lorry, a Bajaj Pulsar motorcycle, five mobile phones and Rs 10,570 in cash. The total value of the seized ganja is estimated at approximately Rs 2.5 crore.
Authorities have launched a search for the four absconding accused believed to be involved in the smuggling racket. Efforts are underway to trace the entire supply chain and identify others connected with the operation.
A case has been registered at Burgampadu Police Station, and further investigation is in progress.
