Tehran, July 17: Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on Friday claimed it launched ballistic missile and drone attacks on US military facilities in the Middle East, alleging that it destroyed American military aircraft and targeted US bases in Jordan and Syria.
The claims have not been independently verified, and US authorities have not confirmed the reported damage.
Iran Claims Retaliatory Strike on US Bases
According to the IRGC, the attacks were carried out in retaliation for overnight US airstrikes on Iranian targets. The Iranian military claimed it destroyed several US Air Force refuelling aircraft and fighter jets and struck the Al Tanf US Special Operations base in Syria.
Iran also claimed to have targeted a US base in Jordan. Jordanian military officials, however, said they intercepted and shot down about three Iranian missiles.
The developments come after the United States reportedly conducted a sixth consecutive day of airstrikes targeting Iranian infrastructure. According to the report, several bridges in Hormozgan province, including links to the strategic port city of Bandar Abbas, were damaged.
Iran warned that further escalation could have serious consequences for the wider Middle East region.
The IRGC also claimed that US helicopters and reconnaissance aircraft were destroyed at the Sakhir airbase in Bahrain.
However, Bahraini officials only confirmed that air raid sirens had been activated and advised residents to move to safe locations. Neither US nor Bahraini authorities have confirmed an attack on the airbase or the destruction of military assets.
