Khammam, July 20: A 27 year old man allegedly died by suicide in Telangana’s Khammam district after facing repeated mental harassment from his wife, according to his family. The incident occurred just three months after their marriage and is under police investigation.
The deceased, identified as Sadarlal, was a resident of Rankyatanda in Raghunadhapalem mandal. He earned a living by trading goats with his father. He married a woman from Haryana in May this year.
Family Alleges Mental Harassment Before Suicide
According to family members, Sadarlal’s wife allegedly began insulting and mentally harassing him from the third day of their marriage, claiming that he lacked masculinity.
The family further alleged that during the Sitla festival, when Sadarlal visited his in laws’ house, he was again insulted by his wife in the presence of her family members. They claimed the incident left him deeply distressed.
After returning home, Sadarlal reportedly informed his sister that he was going out. He later called his brother in law, stating that he was ending his life, and shared his location.
His family immediately rushed to the V Venkatayapalem canal, where they found his motorcycle, mobile phone and a container of weed killer. They alerted the police, who recovered his body from the canal.
The family has also alleged that the woman was in a relationship with another person before the marriage and falsely accused Sadarlal of impotence. They claimed she intended to continue that relationship after the marriage. They further stated that they were prepared to seek medical examinations if the matter had been taken before a village panchayat.
Police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death. The allegations made by the family are yet to be independently verified.
