Hyderabad, July 23: The Andhra Pradesh government has intensified precautionary measures following a rise in Covid 19 cases, while Telangana health authorities have clarified that no confirmed cases have been reported in Hyderabad so far.
Officials said government hospitals in Andhra Pradesh have stepped up testing and established special wards as a precaution.
Telangana Says No Covid Cases Detected
According to officials, more than 60 Covid cases have been reported in Andhra Pradesh over the past 15 days. The state has also issued advisories after the reported deaths of four Covid positive patients.
In Telangana, reports of a suspected Covid related death in Tarnaka created concern. However, Hyderabad District Medical Officer Dr Putla Srinivas clarified that no Covid death had been confirmed.
He said no Covid cases have been detected anywhere in Hyderabad so far.
Dr Srinivas said Covid testing kits are available at government hospitals, including Gandhi Hospital and Osmania General Hospital. He added that people with suspected symptoms would be tested if required.
He also said that most patients currently visiting hospitals are suffering from seasonal illnesses such as cold, cough and fever associated with the monsoon, and not Covid.
Dr Raja Rao, Principal of Osmania Medical College, said the recent infections reported in states such as Andhra Pradesh and Kerala are linked to an Omicron subvariant.
He said the currently circulating subvariant is not considered highly severe and noted that previous Omicron waves did not result in comparable levels of serious illness seen during earlier phases of the pandemic.
However, he advised elderly people and those with chronic medical conditions to remain cautious and seek medical advice if they develop symptoms.
