HRC Serious About Bellampalli Food Poisoning

Hyderabad, July 25: The Telangana State Human Rights Commission (TGHRC) has taken serious note of the Bellampalli Gurukulam food poisoning incident. It has directed the Mancherial District Collector to submit a complete report on the case.

Around 30 students fell ill after dinner at the BC Girls Gurukulam School in Bellampalli. Seven students are in critical condition and are under treatment at Mancherial Area Hospital.

The commission took suo motu cognizance after a report on the incident appeared in the press. It also adjourned the hearing to Saturday. The article flagged repeated food poisoning cases in gurukuls and alleged official negligence. The commission is now examining the matter.

BC Dal national president and lawyer Dundra Kumaraswamy also filed a complaint before the HRC. He said poor monitoring of food quality, hygiene, kitchen management and storage had caused repeated incidents. He asked for the immediate suspension of those responsible and a high level independent inquiry.
