Glasgow, July 30: India enjoyed its best day yet at the Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2026 in Glasgow, adding three medals to its tally and securing six more through an impressive boxing campaign. With the latest results, India moved to eighth place in the overall medal standings with 15 medals, including 3 gold, 9 silver and 3 bronze.
The biggest highlight came in para athletics, where Dilip Mahadu Gavit won the men’s 100m T47 gold medal with a Games Record time of 10.71 seconds. Fellow Indian Mohammed Basil M claimed silver in 10.83 seconds, completing a historic Indian one-two finish in the event.
Six Indian Boxers Assure Medals In CWG 2026
In athletics, Murali Sreeshankar secured the silver medal in the men’s long jump with a best effort of 8.09 metres, narrowly missing the gold medal.
India’s boxing contingent also delivered an outstanding performance. Sakshi Choudhary (51kg), Jaismine Lamboria (57kg), Arundhati Choudhary (70kg), Sachin Siwach (60kg), Ankush Panghal (80kg), and Narender Berwal (+90kg) advanced to the semifinals, guaranteeing at least bronze medals under Commonwealth Games rules.
India also registered encouraging performances in other events. Tajinderpal Singh Toor and Samardeep Singh Gill qualified for the men’s shot put final, while Animesh Kujur, Yashas Palaksha, and Santhosh Kumar Thamilarasan progressed in their respective track events. In bowls, Dinesh Kumar and Navneet Singh defeated Namibia 2-0 in the men’s pairs competition.
However, there were setbacks as Manpreet Kaur finished fourth in the women’s shot put, narrowly missing a medal. Swimmer Aryan Nehra placed sixth in the men’s 1,500m freestyle final, while Suyash Narayan Jadhav and Chaitanya Vishwas Kulkarni finished fourth and fifth respectively in the men’s 50m freestyle S7 final. Weightlifter Sanjana failed to register a valid lift in the women’s 77kg event, and swimmers Sajan Prakash and Aneesh S. Gowda missed qualification for the men’s 200m freestyle final.
Australia continued to dominate the medal table with 103 medals, followed by Canada and England, while India climbed to eighth place after Day 6.
