Hyderabad: Apple’s upcoming iPhone 18 Pro series is expected to become significantly more expensive, with reports suggesting the starting price could cross ₹1.5 lakh in India. The premium pricing is reportedly linked to major hardware upgrades, including Apple’s next-generation A20 chipset, improved cameras and increased memory.
Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro lineup in September 2026, continuing its annual flagship launch cycle.
The current iPhone 17 Pro starts at ₹1,34,900 in India. According to multiple reports, Apple may increase the price by as much as ₹26,000, pushing the base model beyond the ₹1.5 lakh mark. The top-end variants are expected to see an even steeper price increase.
2nm chip and upgraded hardware may drive price hike
Industry reports indicate that the primary reason behind the expected price increase is Apple’s adoption of TSMC’s advanced 2-nanometre (2nm) manufacturing process for the new A20 processor.
The next-generation chipset is expected to deliver significantly better performance, improved AI capabilities and greater power efficiency than the current generation. However, manufacturing the new chip is believed to be considerably more expensive.
The Pro models are also expected to feature additional RAM, further increasing production costs.
Variable aperture camera expected
Apple is also tipped to introduce one of the biggest camera upgrades in recent years.
The iPhone 18 Pro series is expected to feature a 48MP primary camera with a variable aperture, allowing users to adjust the amount of light entering the lens for improved low-light photography and enhanced depth-of-field effects. The telephoto camera is also expected to receive notable improvements.
Although Apple has not officially confirmed pricing or specifications, leaks suggest the iPhone 18 Pro lineup could be among the company’s biggest hardware upgrades in recent years.
