Hyderabad, August 12: School Holidays are set to bring a two day break for students and employees on August 15 and 16. The break will cover Independence Day and Sunday.
August 15 marks India’s Independence Day. Schools across the country will observe the national event with flag hoisting and other programmes. However, regular classes will not be held after the celebrations.
Many schools are expected to organise cultural programmes and patriotic events on Independence Day. Students and teachers will then leave the campuses after the scheduled functions.
The following day, August 16, falls on a Sunday. Therefore, schools will remain closed again. As a result, students in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana will get two consecutive days off.
The break will also benefit many working parents. Government offices will remain closed on the national holiday.
Meanwhile, many private companies follow a Saturday and Sunday weekly holiday schedule.
School Holidays Also Include State Specific Events
However, the holiday pattern differs across states. Manipur will observe an additional holiday on August 13 for Patriots’ Day.
Patriots’ Day commemorates those who died during the Anglo Manipur War. The state observes the day to honour their sacrifice and historical role.
Therefore, students and employees in Manipur will have holidays on August 13, 15 and 16. August 14 falls on a Friday. Those who take leave on that day could get a four day break.
In contrast, students in most other states will have the two day break on August 15 and 16. The actual school holiday schedule can still vary based on local government orders and institutional calendars.
Meanwhile, the August break comes as students look forward to several festival and national holidays. Schools usually publish their annual academic calendars in advance.
Parents should check their school’s official notice before making travel plans. This is important because some institutions may schedule special programmes on Independence Day.
