Delhi Opens 25 Atal Canteens Offering Meals At Rs. 5

New Delhi, August 16: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and former Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu inaugurated 25 Atal Canteens across the city on Sunday.

The inauguration marked the death anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The canteens will offer meals at Rs 5 per plate.

The new canteens are located near hospitals, including AIIMS and LNJP, and in slum clusters.

They cover areas such as Janakpuri and Vikaspuri. The canteens were inaugurated through remote control.

Atal Canteens Target One Lakh People Daily

Gupta said the Delhi government has established and operationalised 100 canteens within seven to eight months.

The facilities aim to provide affordable meals to one lakh needy people every day. Beneficiaries include slum residents, daily wage workers and construction workers.

Meanwhile, Gupta said the government would provide hygienic and wholesome food under the Antyodaya principle.

She said the initiative aims to serve 3.65 crore people over one year.

Delhi Urban Development Minister Ashish Sood and North East Delhi MP Manoj Tiwari also attended the programme.
