Hyderabad, August 31 (Maxim News): TPCC president and MLC Mahesh Kumar Goud has condemned the FIR against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his remarks on discrimination against Dalits.
Mahesh Kumar Goud alleged that the FIR reflects political vendetta by the BJP. He said Rahul Gandhi had raised questions about discrimination, untouchability and social injustice faced by Dalits.
He also referred to the alleged humiliation faced by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge. Mahesh Kumar Goud said Rahul Gandhi questioned the issue, but the government instead registered cases against him.
He asked whether questioning discrimination and untouchability against Dalits could itself become an offence. He said authorities should address allegations of injustice rather than target those who raise such concerns.
According to Mahesh Kumar Goud, suppressing voices that question injustice cannot eliminate caste discrimination. He said such an approach also goes against the spirit of the Constitution.
Mahesh Kumar Goud Demands BJP Explain Its Record
The TPCC chief said governments should stand with people who face discrimination and injustice. He alleged that portraying those who raise such issues as accused persons violates constitutional values.
Mahesh Kumar Goud recalled the Congress party’s historical role in the fight for social justice. He referred to constitutional measures against untouchability and laws aimed at preventing atrocities against Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
He then demanded that the BJP led Union government explain the specific measures it has taken to eliminate discrimination against Dalits. He also challenged the RSS to explain its movements and struggles against untouchability.
Mahesh Kumar Goud said the principles associated with B.R. Ambedkar, including equality, liberty and social justice, require protection by everyone.
He said the Congress would continue to support Dalit rights and dignity. He also pledged that the party would continue its fight against caste discrimination, untouchability and social injustice.
The remarks come amid a political dispute over the FIR against Rahul Gandhi. Mahesh Kumar Goud maintained that raising concerns about social discrimination should remain part of democratic debate.
He further said the government should focus on addressing concerns raised by disadvantaged communities. At the same time, he urged authorities to uphold constitutional principles while dealing with political criticism and allegations of injustice.
