Hyderabad, Sept. 1: Telangana RTC has launched several major reforms in the past 1,000 days, Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar said.
He said the corporation is adopting new technology to improve services for passengers and employees. He also said the government is giving equal importance to both groups.
The minister spoke to the media at Bus Bhavan on the ongoing changes in the transport corporation.
He said the government is improving passenger facilities and employee welfare. Meanwhile, the process for recognition union elections is already underway.
The minister said the elections would take place soon. After the process ends, the government will decide on the proposed merger ofRTC with the state government.
Telangana RTC Pushes Electric Buses and Better Connectivity
Around 65 lakh passengers travel on Telangana RTC buses every day, according to the minister. He said free travel for women has increased pressure on the corporation.
However, he said RTC continues to provide services without compromising on its responsibilities. The government is also working to add 2,200 electric buses under the PM E Drive scheme.
The recruitment process for nearly 4,000 employees has reached its final stage, he said. The government has also allocated Rs 200 crore for retrofitting autos.
Prabhakar credited RTC employees for the corporation’s progress. He specifically praised drivers and conductors for their contribution.
He said Telangana RTC aims to reach another milestone and emerge as a leading state transport corporation.
The government has also removed check posts across the state to improve transparency. It has created enforcement teams in every district.
The minister said the corporation replaced TS with TG in line with the state’s identity. It has also introduced EV and scrap policies.
Furthermore, Telangana has been integrated with Vahan Sarathi, he said. RTC is also working to connect its services with MMTS and Metro networks.
The aim, Prabhakar said, is to strengthen last mile connectivity for passengers. These measures are part of the government’s broader effort to modernise Telangana RTC.
