Hyderabad, Sept. 3: Doctors at Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) successfully treated a 30 year old Telangana labourer with multiple serious heart conditions.
The patient had an irregular heartbeat, an enlarged heart chamber and weakened heart muscle. Doctors performed minimally invasive procedures to treat his condition.
The cardiology team was led by Prof. O. Sai Satish, Head of the Department of Cardiology at NIMS. The team performed an Electrophysiological Study (EPS) and Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA).
NIMS Doctors Use 3D Mapping for Complex Heart Treatment
Doctors used advanced 3D mapping to identify the source of the irregular heartbeats. The affected area was located close to a major heart valve and a major coronary artery.
The location made the procedure particularly risky. Any error could have damaged the blood vessels or heart valve.
Doctors first mapped the blood vessels through an angiogram. They then used radiofrequency energy to neutralise the small area of heart tissue causing the abnormal rhythm.
The patient tolerated the procedure well and recovered without complications. Post procedure monitoring confirmed successful suppression of the irregular heartbeats.
Dr. Sai Satish said the procedure was performed free of cost under the Aarogyasri Scheme.
