Hyderabad Police Tighten Security For Ganesh Utsav Celebrations

Hyderabad, Sept. 5: Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar has directed officers to make robust security arrangements for the upcoming Ganesh Utsav celebrations and immersion processions.

Sajjanar held a preparatory meeting with police officers of Sub Inspector rank and above at the TGICCC Auditorium in Banjara Hills on Saturday.

He directed officers to ensure peaceful celebrations and prevent any untoward incidents during the 11 day festival.

Law and Order and Traffic DCPs briefed the Commissioner on security measures, interdepartmental coordination and deployment plans in their respective jurisdictions.

Sajjanar directed Station House Officers to hold regular coordination meetings with peace committees, pandal organisers and representatives of other departments.

He also asked officers to ensure normal city activities and traffic movement remain unaffected during the festivities.

All Ganesh pandal organisers within the Hyderabad Commissionerate limits must apply through the Hyderabad City Police app. They must also geo tag their pandal details through the app.

Police will encourage organisers to install barricades, queue lines and CCTV cameras at crowded pandals. Sector officers were also directed to remain alert and address local issues promptly.

Following the merger of Shamshabad and Rajendranagar zones with Hyderabad City, areas from Balapur to Khairatabad now fall under the City Police jurisdiction.

Police will pay special attention to immersion routes from Balapur towards Tank Bund and other water bodies. Officers will conduct advance route clearance to prevent congestion and ensure tall idols do not come into contact with overhead power lines.

The Hyderabad Police will coordinate with Cyberabad and Rachakonda commissionerates on the movement of idols entering the city from their jurisdictions. Special traffic plans will also be implemented at high congestion areas, including Khairatabad.

The IT Cell and local police will monitor social media platforms around the clock for rumours or provocative content that could create tension.

Sajjanar warned that strict legal action would follow against those attempting to disturb law and order or spread inflammatory content.

He directed police personnel to remain accessible to the public and maintain visible policing throughout the festival period. Officers were also asked to interact with devotees with patience and restraint.

Additional CP Crimes and SIT M. Srinivas, Additional CP Law and Order Tafseer Iqbal, Joint CP Special Branch S.M. Vijay Kumar, DCPs, Traffic DCPs and other senior officers attended the meeting.
