New Delhi, Sept. 12: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali held bilateral talks in New Delhi on Saturday.
The PM Modi Abiy Ahmed talks took place at Hyderabad House ahead of the 18th BRICS Summit.
The two leaders discussed bilateral relations and areas of mutual interest. They also exchanged a warm hug before the meeting.
Abiy Ahmed arrived in New Delhi on Friday to attend the BRICS Summit. Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth received him.
PM Modi Abiy Ahmed Talks Focus on Bilateral Ties
India is hosting the 18th BRICS Summit at Bharat Mandapam on September 12 and 13.
India’s BRICS chairship follows the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.”
The theme reflects Prime Minister Modi’s people centric approach under the “Humanity First” vision.
The leaders are also expected to discuss intra BRICS cooperation and global and regional issues.
BRICS includes Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and the UAE.
The group’s partner countries include Belarus, Cuba, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Uganda, Uzbekistan and Vietnam.
In June, Modi congratulated Abiy Ahmed and Ethiopia’s Prosperity Party on their parliamentary election victory.
Modi said India values its historic and multifaceted ties with Ethiopia. He also recalled his visit to Ethiopia last year.
Abiy thanked Modi and said Ethiopia looked forward to strengthening its strategic partnership with India.
Modi visited Ethiopia for two days in December last year. During the visit, he held talks with Abiy and addressed the Ethiopian Parliament.
He also visited the Adwa Museum and received Ethiopia’s highest civilian honour, the Great Honour Nishan of Ethiopia.
