Hyderabad, Sept. 14 (Maxim News) : Rising inflows into Musi Reservoir have put officials on alert, with irrigation authorities warning that gates may be opened to release water downstream if levels continue to climb.
Residents living along the Musi river basin in Suryapet and Nalgonda districts have been asked to stay vigilant and take precautionary measures.
The reservoir’s full reservoir level is 645 feet. The current water level stands at 638.30 feet.
Storage is at 2.84 TMC against a total capacity of 4.46 TMC. In the last 24 hours, 5,200 cusecs of floodwater entered the reservoir.
Officials said inflows could rise further if rains continue in upstream areas.
Irrigation officials said they are monitoring the situation continuously. They warned that gates may be opened at any time to release water downstream.
People living near the Musi river, streams, canals, low-lying areas and reservoir surroundings have been told to stay away from these zones.
Musi Flood Alert Issued for Villages in Suryapet and Nalgonda Districts
In Suryapet district, officials issued alerts for villages under Suryapet, Penpahad, Nereducherry and Palakavidu mandals.
The villages specifically named include Ratnapuram, Ramavaram, Hanuman Tanda, Venkatarampur, Tekumatla, Nandyalaguddem, Konkathimmani, Annaram, Circlepet, Kasarabad, Anajipuram, Anantaram, Dosapahadh, Gantavarigudem, Ellaram, Somavaram, Chintakuntla, Pulagambanda Tanda, Musi Oddu Singaram, Ellayapuram, Sajjapuram and Shunyapahadh.
In Nalgonda district, alerts cover villages under Kethepally, Madugulpally, Miryalaguda and Damaracherry mandals. Named villages include Bopparam, Kasanagod, Chikkatiguddem, Kothapeta, Uppalpahadh, Koppolu, Bhimaram, Amanagal, Lakshmidevigundem, Ravulapenta, Rajapeta, Narsimhulaguddem, Takkellapaadu, Kalvapalll, Allagadapa, Rayanipalem, Mulakala Kalva, Keshavapuram, Tuntukuntavilla, Wadapally, Vazirabadh and others.
Officials specifically warned people against entering river areas for fishing, farming or any other purpose. The Executive Engineer of Irrigation Division No.1, Suryapet, urged residents to follow all official warnings and instructions without fail. (Maxim News)
