Riyadh/Hyderabad, Sept 19 (Maxim News): Tension gripped Riyadh and Al-Kharj early Saturday after Saudi Arabia issued a second warning of potential danger through its National Early Warning Platform.
Residents received alerts on their mobile phones as explosions were heard in parts of Riyadh. Saudi Civil Defense later announced that the danger had passed and urged residents to continue following official safety instructions.
The second alert was issued at around 5:19 am local time, after an earlier warning had also been lifted. Civil Defense declared the danger over more than 10 minutes later.
Residents Urged to Stay Indoors
During the alerts, residents were advised to remain indoors, stay away from windows, balconies and rooftops, and avoid open areas. People outside were instructed to enter the nearest safe building or take shelter behind a solid barrier. Authorities also asked residents to avoid gathering and filming the incident.
The nature of the potential threat was not immediately specified by Saudi authorities. The warnings came amid an escalation in attacks by Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi movement against Saudi Arabia.
Saudi Civil Defense had also issued alerts in several other areas on Friday, including Jeddah, Taif, Khamis Mushait and AlUla, before the warnings were lifted.
The latest alerts followed a Thursday incident in Taif in which debris from an intercepted drone fell to the ground. Saudi authorities said one Yemeni resident was killed and two others were injured.
The United Nations Security Council has condemned continued Houthi attacks against Saudi Arabia, including strikes affecting civilian and energy infrastructure.
Saudi authorities have now declared the danger over in Riyadh and Al-Kharj and advised residents to continue following official safety instructions.
