Anakapalli, Sept. 25: ReNew and the Anakapalli district administration have signed an MoU to train 300 women and youth for jobs in the clean energy sector.
The three year partnership will implement Project Surya, a ReNew skill development and livelihood programme.
The pilot phase will provide training in solar energy, operations and maintenance and renewable energy technologies.
The programme will focus particularly on women and youth from Anakapalli district.
Project Surya to Build Clean Energy Skills
ReNew will develop and deliver the training programme and provide trainers, learning materials and assessments.
The company will also screen candidates and conduct the training.
The district administration will support candidate mobilisation and provide training infrastructure and basic amenities.
The initiative comes as Andhra Pradesh expands its renewable energy manufacturing ecosystem.
ReNew is establishing a 6.5 GW solar ingot and wafer manufacturing facility in Anakapalli with an investment of Rs 4,200 crore.
The company said the facility is part of its broader planned investment of around Rs 82,000 crore in Andhra Pradesh.
The investment programme also includes a 2.8 GW hybrid renewable energy project in Anantapur.
According to ReNew, its projects in the state are expected to create more than 3,600 direct and indirect jobs.
ReNew has operated in Andhra Pradesh since 2015, when it commissioned a 24 MW wind project at Kalyandurg.
The company currently operates 717 MW of wind capacity and 60 MW of solar capacity in the state.
Project Surya was originally launched in Gujarat in 2022 with the United Nations Environment Programme and the Self Employed Women’s Association.
The programme initially trained women salt pan workers as solar technicians.
ReNew later expanded the initiative to other communities, including women from coal mining communities in Dhanbad.
The company said Project Surya had trained 728 women as solar technicians by FY2025-26.
Anakapalli District Collector and Magistrate Vijaya Krishnan said the programme would create opportunities for sustainable employment and economic independence.
ReNew co founder and ReNew Foundation Chairperson Vaishali Nigam Sinha said the initiative aims to increase women’s participation in India’s clean energy transition.
The MoU will remain in effect for three years, with both sides working together on training, candidate mobilisation and programme implementation.
