Hyderabad, Sept. 30: BJP leaders staged a protest in Choutuppal on Wednesday over Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s remarks comparing Lord Rama and Lord Shiva.
The protest took place at Valigonda Cross Road in Choutuppal town. BJP leaders placed a pumpkin on the Chief Minister’s effigy, broke it and burnt the effigy.
BJP Objects to Revanth Reddy’s Remarks
The BJP leaders objected to Reddy’s description of Lord Rama as the God of the rich and Lord Shiva as the God of the poor.
They said the remarks had hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus. They also argued that both deities are worshipped by millions of devotees.
The protesters said public representatives should avoid linking religious deities to political divisions. They also objected to Reddy’s remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The BJP leaders called for responsible language from elected representatives. They urged political leaders to respect all religious beliefs and deities equally.
The protest followed Reddy’s remarks at an event in New Delhi. He had contrasted the religious and political identities of North and South India.
The comments drew criticism from BJP leaders, while Telangana Congress president Mahesh Kumar Goud defended the Chief Minister’s remarks.
BJP state executive member Dudala Bhiksham Goud, municipal president Kadari Kalpana, Ailayya Yadav and mandal president Kairankonda Ashok participated in the protest.
Senior BJP leaders Ramanagoni Shankaraiah, Chinukuni Mallesham, Budda Suresh, Polapalli Lakshmi Muthaiah, Tangalla Venkatesham, Nandagiri Venkatesham Goud, Kancharla Govardhan Reddy, Bathula Jangayya Goud and Kayati Ramesh Goud also attended.
