Hyderabad, Oct. 5: Musheerabad police arrested an absconding accused in a case registered over the death of 19 year old S. Badrinath during a Ganesh Agaman procession in Ramnagar.
Police identified the accused as Mohammad Maher Siddiq Ahmed alias Siddiq, 34, a real estate businessman from Ramnagar, Hyderabad.
According to police, Badrinath attended the Ganesh Agaman procession with a friend on September 5. He later became unresponsive and was taken to Gandhi Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Police Allege Negligence During Ganesh Procession
Police said the organiser had arranged large stages, trusses, heavy lighting, multiple bands, DJ systems and loudspeakers. Investigators alleged that proper permissions were not obtained for some of these arrangements.
Police further alleged that organisers continued using loud sound systems despite warnings. They said firecrackers were also burst near the crowd, triggering panic and uncontrolled movement.
According to the investigation, Badrinath collapsed near Soumya Hospital during the commotion and was later shifted to Gandhi Hospital. Police booked the case under Section 105 read with Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Siddiq was arrested at 11:30 pm on October 4 by Chikkadpally ACP G. Ranaveer Reddy. He was subsequently produced before the XVII ACJM Court at Nampally, Hyderabad.
