Hyderabad, Oct, 7: The Telangana government has identified 320 mandals across 18 districts as facing severe drought conditions. The preliminary assessment has been linked to the impact of El Nino and deficient monsoon rainfall.
The state will prepare a comprehensive drought report by the end of October. The number of affected mandals could increase after a detailed assessment of village-level conditions.
Telangana Government Drought Report to Guide Relief Measures
Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju directed officials to collect data from the Planning, Revenue, Groundwater, Agriculture, Panchayat Raj and Rural Water Supply departments.

Officials will assess the drought situation using 12 standard parameters prescribed by the Union government. Southwest Monsoon rainfall from June to September will be a key factor.
The report will also help Telangana seek financial assistance from the Centre for drought relief. The state recorded a 17 per cent rainfall deficit during the 2026 Southwest Monsoon.
Meanwhile, officials have been asked to prepare local action plans based on conditions in each affected mandal. The government also plans an all-party meeting to discuss the impact of El Nino and drought conditions.
An official delegation is expected to meet Union ministers to seek a drought relief package. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy is also expected to review the situation with Revenue officials next week.
