Meanwhile, Delhi Police registered more than 20 first information reports (FIRs) linked to attempts to hold protests, officials said. The cases involve allegations including obstructing official duties, taking the law into one’s own hands and assaulting police personnel.

On Saturday, police detained more than 3,000 protesters, including opposition leaders Mamata Banerjee, Arvind Kejriwal and Pinarayi Vijayan. Authorities deployed extensive security arrangements to prevent protesters from gathering at Jantar Mantar.

Officials had denied permission for the demonstration and warned against unauthorised gatherings. Authorities also imposed restrictions and arranged roadblocks and traffic diversions ahead of the planned protest.

Police took detainees to different locations, including Chhatrasal Stadium and police stations. Most protesters, including the opposition leaders, were released later on Saturday evening.
