Hyderabad, Oct. 15: Telangana’s TG SAFE has warned the public and doctors against buying, prescribing or using unapproved weight-loss drugs and experimental peptide products sold through online platforms.
In an advisory issued on Wednesday, October 15, the Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs (TG SAFE) flagged products marketed through unregulated websites, social media and messaging channels. These include Retatrutide, Orforglipron, Tesamorelin, BPC-157 and GHK-Cu.
The authority said some vendors falsely market these products as “research chemicals” or label them “Not for Human Consumption”. However, some are reportedly sold with injection kits, raising concerns about unsafe use.
TG SAFE warned that these products may lack required regulatory approvals and may bypass essential quality, safety and sterility controls.
TG SAFE Flags Serious Risks From Unapproved Injectable Products
The authority cautioned that products sold online may be fraudulent, mislabelled or contain substances that do not match their labels. Their actual contents and quality may therefore be unreliable.
Self-administering unapproved injectable substances can expose users to serious health risks. These include bacterial infections, severe adverse reactions and potentially life-threatening complications.

TG SAFE also warned doctors against prescribing or administering unapproved formulations in violation of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940. Medical practitioners have been advised to avoid procuring such products through unregulated suppliers.
The advisory highlights concerns over experimental compounds promoted online for weight loss, body composition or other health-related purposes without appropriate regulatory oversight.
Members of the public have been urged not to purchase or inject such products based on online promotions or claims made by sellers. They should consult qualified medical professionals before starting any medication.
People can report suspected sales or distribution of these products to the TG SAFE Drugs Wing through its toll-free number, 1800-599-6969. The helpline is available on working days between 10.30 am and 5 pm.
