US Revokes Record 300,000 Visas Under Marco Rubio

Washington, Nov. 1: The US State Department has revoked more than 300,000 visas under Secretary of State Marco Rubio, describing the figure as the highest in American history. The move comes as the Trump administration continues a sweeping review of foreign nationals holding US visas.

The department announced the figures in a series of posts on its official X account late Saturday. It said most of the revocations were linked to criminal activity, public safety concerns, immigration violations, fraud, misrepresentation or other eligibility issues.

US Visa Revocations Include Over 4,000 Birth Tourism Cases

The State Department said more than 4,000 visas had been revoked over birth tourism, a practice in which foreign nationals travel to the United States to give birth so their children can acquire American citizenship.

Of these, more than 700 visas belonged to Chinese nationals, according to the department.

The department also reported that the Bureau of Consular Affairs established a Continuous Vetting Center in Washington, D.C., in 2025. The centre has revoked more than 23,000 visas as part of the review process.

According to the State Department, most of the centre’s revocations were related to criminal activity or public safety concerns. It said 25 per cent involved assault and related offences, 22 per cent were linked to driving under the influence, 7 per cent to theft and another 7 per cent to substance abuse or distribution.

The department reiterated that a US visa is a privilege and said it would continue taking action against individuals who violate American laws.

However, the announcement did not provide a country-wise breakdown of the total revocations. It also did not specify how many cancelled visas belonged to Indian nationals, who form a significant group among international students and skilled workers in the United States.
