73rd Independence Day Celebrations At English And Foreign Languages University (EFLU)
Prof. E. Suresh Kumar, Vice Chancellor, The English and Foreign Languages University, Hyderabad, unfurled the national flag on the occasion of the 73rd Independence Day Celebrations, at the University. He exhorted the faculty and the students to rededicate for the national cause to prove that the Universities are the mirrors of national character.
The Vice Chancellor informed that the University signed important MoUs with the University of Vechta, Germany; University of Montpellier, France; Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, South Korea; during last year.
As a result of the student exchange programmes included in the MoUs, the students of the University are visiting the universities in Germany and France.
The Vice Chancellor apprised that the University being one among the two Central Universities in South India granted Graded Autonomy by the UGC, members of faculty from the University of De Montford, the UK; the Embassy of France, India; are teaching at the University.
He recounted that high-level delegations from the US; Indonesia; Royal University of Bhutan; British Council, South India; visited the University. Prof. Suresh Kumar referred to the two MoUs with the University of De Montford, UK, and with the Embassy of Spain, New Delhi which are in the pipeline.
He considered the recently signed MoU with Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Visakhapatnam, as beneficial to the students of the University, as it would enable them to study short-term management courses at IIM-V to get global placements.
Under the University Social Responsibility (USR), a first of its kind initiative by any university in the country, the EFL University conducted a month-long summer camp to the children of the Raj Bhavan staff.
A free Basic Korean Language Course was also offered by the University in association with Honorary Consulate General of the Republic of Korea to encourage Indian students to communicate in Korean language under USR initiative.
Prof. Suresh Kumar mentioned that the University is developing Open Educational Resources (OERs) in thirteen languages which are ready for launch. A mobile app called EnglishPro has been developed to impart lessons in English pronunciation and is ready for launch.
The Vice Chancellor told that two centres have been established to step up consultancy and research at the University.
They are Centre for Consultancy and Language Training (CCLT) to offer consultancy services to various agencies in matters related to teaching and learning, and Research Acceleration Centre (RAC) to create an eco-system for inter-disciplinary research.
The Vice Chancellor also informed that the gymnasium for the foreign students is ready and will soon be inaugurated.
Earlier, the Vice Chancellor was received by the teacher-administrators and officers of the University as he inspected the guard of honour before the national insignia is unfurled.
The students of the University’s Music Club rendered patriotic songs after the completion of the Vice Chancellor’s message. Students and teachers the showed the festive fervour in greeting each other on the occasion of Independence Day.
