AP May Have 3 Capitals: CM Jagan
Will Andhra Pradesh have three capitals? Such a possibility is not ruled out as decentralisation is the key for development, according to Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy.
Speaking in the AP Assembly in Amaravati on Tuesday, he referred to South Africa which has three capital cities. “Perhaps, Andhra Pradesh may also follow suit. The legislative capital may stay here in Amaravati, the executive capital may come up in Visakhapatnam and the High Court may be set up in Kurnool,” he said.
He noted that Visakhapatnam had all the infrastructure and could be used as administrative capital by spending a few crore on projects such as metro to ease traffic congestion.
He said the committee on the capital was likely to come out with its report in about a week. Two renowned organisations were also asked to give their reports independently on what could be done, and the government would examine the reports and take a decision, he said.
