Tension Prevails Over Construction on ‘Endowment’ Land in The Old City

Several protestors gathered on Kali matha temple premises, part of which was allegedly being encroached and construction work taken up

Tension prevailed in Old City after clashes broke out in the process of objecting the building construction in ‘Kali Mata’ temple land at Uppuguda. The land worth is estimated to be of Rs 7 crore.

Locals staged a protest demanding to stop the construction and said that the survey number 24,25, and 26 of more than seven-acre land has been under the control of the endowments department since 1951. Meanwhile, the person who initiated the construction works claimed that the temple trust had sold the land to him.

Goshamahal MLA Raja Singh also joined the protest and demanded to vacate the place. The police who rushed to the spot dispersed the crowd and arrested a few people.

It is learned that the temple trust had auctioned the land earlier following which CPI leaders staged a protest stating the land was given away at a low price and a petition was filed in the high court. The HC then cancelled the land auction.
