Hyderabad: Telangana High Court on Monday refused to order release of passports of a Chinese and a Korean, which were seized by the Intelligence department in an economic offense.
The foreign nationals – Kim Joenghoen and Tai Xinghua were produced before the Special Judge for Economic Offences Court at Nampally and their passports seized. The accused persons were nationals of Republic of Korea and China respectively. Authorities had seized Rs. 5.46 crores from them.
The judge questioned the petitioners’ counsel as to how their presence of the accused could be secured if their passports were returned and they were let to go to their respective countries.
The judge also indicated without naming any person that several such instances have happened in past when people committing scams running into crores of rupees have ran away abroad. The judge will continue to hear the matter March 4.
