Man Arrested For Extorting Money From Govt Employees

Hyderabad, Sept. 7: The Cyberabad Cybercrime police caught a person on charges of targeting suspended government employees posing as an official from the Secretariat and demanding money for their reinstatement. He was arrested nine times earlier, police said in a press note.

B. Suresh Kumar Chary alias Nageswar Rao alias Kumar (48), a milk vendor from Banjara Hills and a native of Karimnagar, had earlier duped many people promising jobs and benefits from government schemes. According to the police, Chary also targeted government employees, who were either trapped by the Anti-Corruption Bureau or suspended for various reasons. He called higher officials of different departments and introduced himself as an official from the Secretariat, asking for the list of personnel who are pending reinstatement.

“After collecting the list, he contacted those employees and asked them to pay money towards reinstatement,” police said, adding that he was arrested nine times in similar cases including by the Nampally police, CCS Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Cyberabad and Banjara Hills police. Recently, posing as an official from the “Vigilance Department”, he called a government official and asked to provide the list of personnel pending reinstatement in the district. The official did so.

“After some time, a few of the suspended officials received calls asking for money for their reinstatement through Google Pay and other e-wallets,” police said. Based on a complaint, the Cyberabad Cybercrime police booked a case and nabbed Chary.
