Holiday For Schools in Tamil Nadu on Oct 16

As proposed by teachers’ groups, the Tamil Nadu school education administration has granted a holiday for schools on October 16, Saturday.

The schools are opened for six days a week, which would include Saturdays, after resuming for Classes IX through XII.

Following the state government proclaiming Ayudha Puja and Vijaya Dashami vacations on October 14 and 15, numerous teachers associations requested that the department announce Saturday as a holiday so that teachers may return to their hometowns.

On Wednesday, school education commissioner K Nanthakumar released a circular stating that following their demands, and in consideration of the teachers’ and students’ interests, October 16 has been declared a school holiday.

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu had 1,259 new Covid-19 cases on Thursday, continuing the declining trend, with 10 districts reporting fewer than ten infections.

The new instances brought the total number of cases in the state to 26.83 lakh, with 20 individuals succumbing to the infection, bringing the total to 35,853, according to a medical bulletin. On Wednesday, the state had 1,280 instances.

In the last 24 hours, 1,438 patients were discharged, bringing the total number of people discharged to 26,32,092, leaving 15,451 active infections.

There were 1,37,423 samples tested in total, bringing the total number of specimens evaluated to 4.90 crore.
