Senior Officials from UP Meets Somesh Kumar

Hyderabad, June 4 (Maxim News): Senior officials of Commercial Taxes department from Uttar Pradesh called on Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar here on Saturday.

They held a meeting with their counterparts of Telangana at BRKR Bhavan here and enquired about the best practices of the Telangana Commercial Taxes department.

During the meeting, the Chief Secretary gave an overview of the best practices implemented by the department which had resulted in increased revenue to the government.

He stated that under the leadership of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, who also holds the Commercial Tax portfolio, the revenue of the State through commercial tax department has grown exponentially from around Rs.23,000 crores in 2014 to around Rs.65,000 crores last year which is around three times more. The tax payer base has also been expanded substantially.

The Chief Secretary said the there has been a paradigm shift in the functioning of the department which has become system driven.

The manual based drafting of notices and proceedings has been done away with and physical targets has been replaced with task based targets.

The department has also been reorganised by adding several circles. Economic intelligence units have been set up for research and analytics.

The UP officials said that it was a great learning experience for them to know about the best practices of the state which they hoped that they could be implemented in their state as well.

Commissioner Commercial Tax Neetu Prasad, Additional Commissioners Sai Kishore, Kasi and Sobhan Babu from IIT Hyderabad were present. The Uttar Pradesh officials were led by S Ministhy Commissioner Commercial Taxes and other senior officials. (Maxim News)
